I guess you’ll take the ketchup if you’ve got nothing, but you’ll know it doesn’t taste right and sadly you’ll have to pay just as much for the pleasure of eating it.This article provides troubleshooting steps if you can’t access your router. It’s kinda like spaghetti noodles with marinara or ketchup. So to summarize, if it’s hybrid or nothing then you take the hybrid. The worst and most embarrassing is when my contracted admin support staff can’t use her Macs built-in accessibility tools for the hearing impaired. Even React Native which is a far cry better than Electron with its webview2 and native bridge, doesn’t support all native APIs. Nor do I want chat apps that eat a gig of RAM and are slow.īut what’s really sad is that these hybrid apps don’t always support native OS APIs. I didn’t buy a Mac running MacOS to get a slew of apps with weird UI and layouts. What’s worse is that I’m the customer and the software developer is telling me what I want. I hate to pick on MS again, but Teams is awful and I’m the paying customer. Frankly, if I’m paying Microsoft for office and I need outlook, then I expect the native, performant, and full featured application.Īnd moreover the clumsy CSS UI layouts that can’t create buttons or margins within an app window at smaller scales or consistent OS UI language is annoying. I am paying some of them annually or monthly with SaaS. But I’d rather billion and trillion dollar companies hire the dev teams and create real, native apps. If it means no app or it’s really simple, then go hybrid. It's still a lot of languages to master just to make a simple app (like we used to do with C# and the Windows Forms designer) but it's the easiest method for now, rather than having to learn C++ & GTK/QT for Linux and ObjC/Swift for OSX. "Backend" (or app logic) is usually done in JS/C#/Java/Python. as the wrapper, and Angular/Vue/React/etc. This, of course, is provided for now by WebKit/Electron/WebView/etc. Personally, I'd love a way to code my GUI-based app in a single toolkit/framework that works natively across all platforms, with the least amount of code possible. I've been a developer for as long as I can remember (22+ years, maybe?) across all 3 platforms, so I know very well how things are. It could come back, of course, with a way to standarize UI development across all major platforms - or at least, the desktop ones. Native development will become a dinosaur like COBOL and other languages are. HTML, CSS and JS made the groundwork for that, and people figured that slapping a webview over anything that runs that, and just that, without any of the browser overhead, created an easy platform to develop a single UI for all platforms, and sometimes, even the same codebase. The problem with native development is that each and every platform is a brand new world, there's no standards for how the UI should be developed (even though they all use at least all the basic stuff: Forms, buttons, text input, images, etc.). I'm on the latest Win11 stable build btw. Also, I just tested the preview in Explorer and it's fine for me. Apps that need to render a HTML page can use the builtin Webview engine, without using a browser. Think of Webview2 the same as the Android Webview on any Android phone. I use both Firefox and Edge and after uninstalling Webview2, I can continue using Edge just fine. MicrosoftEdgeUpdateTaskMachineCore- MicrosoftEdgeUpdateTaskMachineUAĭisable both to stop Edge from updating (which could potentially also download and install Webview2 again). Under the Task Scheduler root (Task Scheduler Library), you should find 2 tasks: If you want to install it again, download it from here: Īlso, may be a good idea to disable the Edge update task in Task Scheduler. Just run this in Powershell (elevated as Admin):winget uninstall "Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime" This subreddit is suitable for both Office warriors and newbies.Īre you sure? I'm on the latest Win11 build and uninstall is greyed out įound the fix. And with the current accuracy limits being set by technical issues, rather than fundamental limits, the prospects for even better measurements in the future are extremely promising.” Regardless of the application - whether in redefining the SI second, surveying or fundamental physics - the better the clock comparisons, the greater the impact. 16 February 2022 Atomic clouds stabilized to measure dilation of time Tests of relativity once required accurate clocks separated by thousands of kilometres. “Networks of optical clocks can also be used to explore many other aspects of physics, because their precision allows measurements of the world around us to be obtained at unprecedented resolution.”Įxamples of such investigations include testing Einstein’s theory of relativity at ever more stringent levels and searching for possible changes in the values of physical constants. A high-quality cesium clock will only lose about one second every 1.4 million years. However, a terrible gliding accident soon befell the entire Lucius family, leaving the Princess Cassandra as the only living heir. She was later seen consorting with the one-thousand-year-old Prince Regent Lucius at the Fifteenth Pylomic Games and marriage soon followed. It was claimed by Vox B MacMallican that "the Dot Delta Seventeen's nowhere in Burke's Extrapolated, while there was evidence that the "Lady" was purchased for 50 klim at the Instant Royalty Bazaar. Vox B MacMallican believed this is what prompted her later collection of poems - Forlorn and Lonely, Sitting on a Box of Chickens. In the OC Year B/01, Cannabone Pictures collapsed and Cassandra fled Sant's World in steerage. The reviews were terrible and, following the mysterious deaths of fifteen critics and two surgeons, Brian was never heard of again. The same year, the original Brian Cobbs resurfaced, as the star of the musical biopic Look At Me Laughing!. Cassandra married the studio boss, Ivan Cannabone, and - following Cannabone's death beneath a falling piano - became head of Cannabone Pictures. She worked as an actress, Cassandra Hoots, and appeared in various B-movies, such as Mind My Legs and Run, Betty, Run. Twenty years later, on Sant's World, she first used the name "Cassandra". Now the bordello's madam, and going by the name Kitty Gillespie, she vanished that night and was last seen boarding the shuttle to Sant's World. The Wyze does all the basic functions of a smart plug and will only set you back $20 for a two-pack. Wyze: We like the Wyze Smart Plug primarily for its low pricing.Yes, the smart plug works well with a HomeKit setup along with Alexa and Google, but so does the more user-friendly Leviton plug. WeMo: We previously featured this smart plug as "Best for HomeKit" in spite of other shortcomings like a less-than-impressive app.If you can catch it on sale, or perhaps in a value-priced two-pack, this smart plug can be a decent, budget-friendly addition to your smart home. Nothing special, but nothing that would turn me away from using it, either. Vont Smart Plug: Your standard smart plug. But for a single smart plug this one is fairly expensive at $35, and it doesn't sport any unique features to justify the cost. Philips Hue Smart Plug: The Philips Hue app reminded me of GE's Cync app in that the setup was simple and there's the potential to connect multiple devices under whole-home automation.Nothing else really stands out about the plug, unfortunately, but if you want a simple, cheap (currently $11) plug that doesn't scream "I'm a smart plug," this is a good choice. Govee Smart Wi-Fi Plug: The round design is nice and blends in with my wall plate perfectly while leaving plenty of room for another plug. It's also priced a bit higher than the HBN dual outlet at $22. The Enbrighten version is significantly wider, however, and doesn't allow for individual control of each outlet, at least not in any way that I could easily figure out. Enbrighten Dual Smart Plug: Like with the HBN smart plug, I appreciated the extra outlet.Everyone loves a smart outlet, but no one likes an ugly one. However, the price and unattractive, oversized design are enough to keep us from recommending it. ConnectSense Smart Outlet 2: This $60 behemoth does it all - energy monitoring, individually controlled outlets, a USB port and LED status lighting. While set-up is easy, it isn't as feature-rich as other models, which may be a deal-breaker when you're looking for a smart outlet. Amazon Smart Plug: A flagship for the brand, the Amazon smart plug costs $25 and only works with Amazon Alexa.Again, Matter could change that in the near future. All are compatible with Alexa and Google (excluding the Amazon Smart Plug), but not HomeKit unless specifically noted. Here's a quick look at other notable options. There are dozens of smart plugs out there from companies large and small, and while we haven't tested every single one, we've tried out many of the ones you'd come across online or at your local big box store. Still, if you want a smart plug that monitors your energy use and allows for more energy-efficient customization than other plugs, this is the one for you. Most smart plug applications are for lamps, nightlights, fans and other fixtures that are relatively low on the energy consumption scale. There's also the consideration of whether or not the thing you've got plugged into your Emporia smart plug is worth the in-depth monitoring. I had to play with it a bit to figure out that "Management > Time-of-use management" was the means to create a schedule, and turning the plug on and off from the Home screen wasn't set as a default. There are other energy monitoring and consumption features, but that's the gist of it.Įmporia's app is certainly useful and informative, but speaking strictly from a standalone smart plug standpoint, it can get mildly in the way of actually using the smart plug. The Management screen lets you prioritize Emporia devices to automatically turn off if you approach a set peak energy demand goal, automatically consume excess solar energy and, of course, create a custom schedule. Tapping the plug or power icons will take you to the on/off settings, or you can tap on the device name to see a graph of your plug's (that is, whatever's plugged into it) energy use over time. From the home screen display, you can see connected devices and their on/off status along with how much energy they are currently using. The East Palisades are more strenuous (and usually less crowded). This section is a good bet for families and trail runners. You’ll follow Rottenwood Creek with multiple bridge crossings. The West Palisades section features easier hikes, with four miles of mostly paved and flat trails. The Palisades Trails are broken up into two sections, east and west. You’ll find several scenic trail systems to explore in the recreation area. Located in the middle of metro Atlanta, the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area offers excellent opportunities for kayaking, fishing, rafting, biking, hiking, bird watching and even good old tubing through numerous parks and preserves from Lake Lanier to the city itself. Published AugLast Updated January 31, 2023 (□ Shawn Taylor) Fun Activities And Things to Do at Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area Significant damage from soft rot can take decades, or hundreds of years, depending on how wanting the oxygen is in that environment. The Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area is a welcome retreat for boating, fishing and exploring the outdoors. Soft rot, on the other hand, is very slow acting and occurs in oxygen deprived environments such as fresh water and below grade conditions. Ground contact conditions are perfect for common wood decay because there is ambient oxygen, favorable temperature, and favorable moisture. Do the same in the northeast and the untreated 2x4 will be gone in 5-6 years. For example, stick an untreated 2x4 in the ground in the deep south and it's pretty much gone within 1-2 years. For now, I’ll simply refer to the aggressive types of wood decay as 'common wood decay,' or, as they are often referred to in construction: " dry rot." Common wood decay, which is what most of us are used to seeing, decays wood rapidly in optimal conditions. Soft rot wood decay is a common issue I encounter when working with diving, marine and geo-technical engineers. It's a slow-acting wood decay that is actually capable of causing significant damage and strength loss in wood, even though it that has been submerged in water for very long periods of time, especially untreated wood. Soft rot is a unique type of wood decay because it can survive in oxygen deprived environments, whereas its more aggressive counterparts require oxygen for growth. Upon reading this story I found it very likely that the submerged timbers were quite deteriorated, and that soft rot wood decay would be the culprit. I contacted Nichole Doub, one of the archaeologists from the Maryland Archaeological Conservation Laboratory (MAC Lab) working on preserving the wood, to discuss the process by which they preserve the wood, and to share some knowledge about how wood deteriorates in fresh water. It should come as no surprise that this story attracted my attention because of the wood science involved. According to the Baltimore Sun article, it "was a merchant ship that likely greed grain to or from the Eastern Shorte port of Vienna in the late 1700s." The timbers appear to be from a shipwreck that may extend back to the Revolutionary War era, which would make the timbers over 200 years old. Recently I read an article about a Revolutionary War-era shipwreck found submerged in the Nanticoke River near Baltimore. Divers were cleaning up debris in the river channel under the US Route 50 bridge after barge had apparently hit a system of fender piles beneath the bridge when they unexpectedly pulled up some old timbers that were not part of the barge debris. The old adage, “wood that remains completely submerged in water will not decay,” is unfortunately incorrect. 2/11/2024 0 Comments Risk legacyIt should be noted that although cards are ripped up over the course of the game, there are so many cards added via the sealed packages, that the game does not suffer. Players who did not win but were not eliminated are allowed to make minor changes to the world, such as founding a minor city or adding resources to a country. The winner of each of the first 15 games receives a "major bonus," such as founding a major city (which only he will be allowed to start on in future games), deleting a permanent modifier from the board, destroying a country card (preventing it from providing any resources towards purchasing troops in future games), changing a continent troop bonus, or naming a continent, which gives that player a troop bonus in future games. The rule book indicates that these contain the rule additions, additional faction powers, and other things that should not be discussed here for spoiler protection. The game box contains different sealed packages and compartments, each with a written condition for opening. Entire sections of rules will not take effect until later in the game. The rule book itself is also designed to change as the game continues, with blocks of blank space on the pages to allow for rules additions or changes. These changes may include boosting the resources of a country (for recruiting troops in lieu of the older "match three symbols" style of recruiting), adding bonuses or penalties to defending die rolls to countries, or adding permanent continent troop bonuses that may affect all players. Some things you do in a game will affect it temporarily, while others will affect it permanently. Throw it in the trash." This key concept permeates through the game. What makes this game unique is that when powers are chosen, players must choose one of their faction's two powers, affix that power's sticker to their faction card, then destroy the card that has the other rule on it – and by destroy, the rules mean what they say: "If a card is DESTROYED, it is removed from the game permanently. At the start of the first game, each of these factions gains the ability to break one minor rule, such as the ability to move troops at any time during your turn, as opposed to only at the end. In each game, players choose one of five factions each faction has uniquely shaped pieces, and more importantly, different rules. What's different is that Risk Legacy' changes over time based on the outcome of each game and the various choices made by players. Players control countries or regions on a map of the world, and through simple combat (with players rolling dice to determine who loses units in each battle) they try to eliminate all opponents from the game board or control a certain number of "red stars", otherwise known as victory points (VPs). At its core, the game, particularly at first, plays much like regular Risk with a few changes. Risk Legacy represents what is if not a new, at least a rare concept to boardgaming: campaigning. Details on why this is important in the description. This description is spoiler free, containing nothing outside the initial rulebook for the game. |
